Poster of the exhibition “Louis Vuitton Foundation Collection” in Moscow

Wealthy companies collect art for two reasons. Because they are responsible businessmen, investing part of superprofits in something rational, kind, eternal. And because works of art are a good investment. Over the years, cultural values go up. The collection of companies has more miscalculation than flavoring. The Louis Vuitton Foundation’s collection is generally a twentieth-century star. It is enough to simply list the names in order to understand whether it is necessary to go to the exhibition: Alberto Giacometti, Yves Klein, Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, Christian Boltanski, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Marina Abramovich, Maurizio Cattelan, Andreas Gursky. All this luxury is a response gesture of the foundation to our Pushkin Museum to them. Pushkin, who in 2016-2017 sent his best works to the exhibition “Masterpieces of new painting. Collection of Sergei Schukin ”in the Louis Vuitton Foundation (Paris). The works from the fund will be symbolically placed at the site of the Shchukin meeting, which will move to the main building of the museum for the large-scale exhibition Schukin. Biography of the collection. ”
Amazing exhibition. This is an exhibition of the world, which has already quite settled down in the 22nd century and is being adapted to the present. Yes, I agree that it’s not easy to “enter” here from the neighboring building with an exhibition of the Shchukin collection, the fact of which recalls the voluntary division of the collection by Stalin in 1948. Schukin’s collection is very interesting, but it is from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. And here is art that is much closer to us in terms of time. And with him a big problem is a high entry threshold; the need not just to watch, but to know and think a lot. This scares the unprepared viewer and makes you immediately build up psychological defense. “I do not understand, which means this is nonsense. Why did the stuffed horses hang in the museum?” The 22nd century is not only a smartphone, but the rest of the reality. And Giacometti is beautiful. As many as eight tracks. And no prohibitions on photography. Thanks to the French! This is an incredible gift!
The Pushkin Museum exhibits the exhibition “Collection of Fondation Louis Vuitton. Favorites. ”
In my opinion, a completely exceptional event. The museum consistently introduces the general public to the art of our time. Although it is very difficult. As in the field of academic music, our perception, due to its long isolation, lags behind the aesthetics of time …
Louis Vuitton (1821-1892) was actually a master of leather goods, holding a shop in Paris near Place Vendome. At least it was at first.
Gradually, a huge business grew out of the shop. One of the legends of French business … Now it is a group of companies LVMH / Möet Hennessy. Louis Vuitton. Luxury goods, expensive champagne, cognac.
Group President Bernard Arnault, who signed the traditional official greeting to visitors to the exhibition in parallel with Marina Loshak, is the owner of an approximately 100 billionth fortune; some sort of third or fifth position in wealth ratings … The day after the fire in Notre Dame, a group of companies (or rather Bernard Arnault) contributed 200 million euros to its recovery fund.
The owner of the Fondation Louis Vuitton collection is also Bernard Arnault, a collector of art from the second half of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries. And, by the way, he has the most direct relation to the idea of combining Shchukin’s legendary collection in one exhibition. It was like that at the end of 2016-beginning of 2017. in Paris – amazing.
Tourists in Paris are always everywhere everywhere, but then the newly built spectacular building Fondation LV in crowds was besieged primarily by the French. And roamed the halls dumbfounded. For the most part, they first saw the “Absinthe Lover” by Picasso, “Red Fishes” by Matisse, “Self-portrait” by Cézanne, “Saturday” by Derain … These are all their great artists … For the Russian lover of painting, textbooks seen more than once, but surprise and enthusiasm hung in the air there, infected … And indeed, over half a century these works from the Hermitage and the Pushkin Museum did not meet together … My heart, in a word, froze …
And now Shchukin’s collection is symbolically shown in the Pushkin Museum simultaneously with the Bernard Arnault collection. Actually, the works of contemporary artists were placed in the Art Gallery of the countries of Europe and America of the 19th-20th centuries. in place of the Shchukin’s, who temporarily moved to the Main Building.
It is great that such cooperation is taking place.
65 works of the largest artists of recent decades, never before exhibited at our place. An advanced audience, of course, screeched with impatience when the curators told the exhibition about the installation on Facebook. But how many people have at least heard of these artists?
Personally, I did not hear about everyone and discovered a few.
Monu Khatum (born in 1952 in Lebanon) with her heartbreaking straw hats on a bench (In my opinion, it cannot be good when it has grown together …)
Annette Message (born in 1943, France) with her beating dolls. Little black ballerina, completely lonely, although some dashing type and attached to her. The laconic “Red Mask” is the embodiment of all human tragedies. “My vehicles” with a complex psychological plot …
